Winter Wedding Invitations and Stationery

It was summertime when I began to work on these invitations for Shannon and John. At the time we thought, December wedding— we’ll have snow. Little did we know we would have a gorgeous, precipitation-less day! No complaints here, but at least we had snow on the invitations.

Shannon had many themes for her wedding day, which I mentioned on her photography post. For the stationery, we decided to keep things simple and went with an elegant bride and groom design, surrounded by subtle snow flakes. We used a pearlescent paper which shimmers and sparkles just enough to make the snow flakes twinkle. Even the envelopes sparkled, so guests would get an instant feel for the special castle wedding to come.

Shannon choose the three piece invitation set, which consists of an announcement page, directions page with a custom designed map, and a response post card. We used shades of red and green to compliment the girls red dresses and the green christmas decorations.

We designed these 5x7 folding thank you cards for the guests to have a memento of the day.

After the wedding, she choose her favorite image for thank you cards. The cards are 5×7 inches in size and fit a normal frame, so guests will have a memento from the day as well. Since we didn’t have real snow, I embellished the cards with a similar snowflake pattern as the invitations.

I love how everything came together in one consistent theme. Since Shannon used the Snap Cinema fusion team, her video packaging, proof book and other weddings elements will all coordinate with her wedding stationery. Shannon & John: A Winter Wedding at Belhurst Castle in the Finger Lakes

Let me count the ways of how great this wedding was…

First of all, Shannon is amazing. We re-met about a year ago… which was about twenty years after her mom taught me in kindergarten! She booked the Snap Cinema team, which meant I got to work with my favorite people in the world– my parents, and my BFF Erin, AND she choose to honor me by having her wedding on my birthday! Okay… that may have been more of a coincidence, but I’m still counting it as an awesome birthday present!

There were several “themes” surrounding this wedding. Since it was a December wedding, there had to be some christmas decorations and well, Santa of course! Shannon is also a huge Disney fan, so you may notice some Mickey’s and Minnie’s in the photos below. There were also wine tastings and wine favors to reflect the best the Finger Lakes have to offer. And last, but certainly not least, being at Belhurst Castle meant Shannon was the Princess! And although the princess did not get the snow she had hoped for, she did get a spectacular full moon rise over the lake.

This was a magical day, and I am so glad I was able to share it with you. I cannot express how happy I am for you both! John, you are one lucky man, and Shannon, you’ve got a keeper. I hope you enjoy this sneak peak of your dream day, I cannot wait to get started on your Fusion Video!!

Dot Themed Invitations and Favors

Rowan, a good friend of mine, was a resourceful bride. She was all about supporting small and local businesses, reducing her impact on the environment, and finding ways to spend the most possible time with her guests. She did wonderful on all accounts.

The wedding was the perfect blend of her and Kevin’s interests. Roxy, one of their dogs, was part of the procession (Kevin is a veterinarian). A passage was read from the decision in Goodrich v. Department of Health (Rowan is a lawyer). The wedding favor was home brewed beer made by Kevin and his brother. (Part of my job included sampling the beers… they were all delicious, though I was partial to the Hefeweizen and Root Beer!)

So back to the environment. Rowan is a Environmental lawyer, and lover of the outdoors. In fact, she and Kevin met in Alaska! How cool (pun intended). Anyway, most of her communication with guests (save-the-dates, invitations, and RSVP) was handled online. This was to reduce paper waste, as once the wedding has passed, many guests feel no need to keep this information. There are, however, a few VIP’s who will always save and treasure their printed keepsakes. Parents, grandparents, siblings, bridal party and others who are close to you will keep this beautiful and sentimental document for years to come. Thus, a limited edition printing was in order, which is where I come in.

The goal was something simple, recyclable, and fit the theme. The blue and green bubbles were a perfect element, and became the anchor for each piece to follow. We kept things simple with just one typeface and three colors. We then printed the three piece set on brown, recycled paper.

The pattern continued onto the website, and then on to the favors! We used labels and a home printer to create these one-of-a-kind bottles. Well, I just did the layout. I give the credit to Rowan and her mother-in-law for the printing and sticking part! They turned out awesome, and were a big hit at the wedding.

Rowan and Kevin, your wedding was seriously one of the most perfect I have ever been to. It was perfect for you, and you are perfect for each other. Thank you for letting me play a small part in your big day! Congratulations, and many happy years to you both!

Clare & Andy: A Finger Lakes Wedding

These two make each other smile and laugh so easily, you can tell they were made for each other. If you saw their engagement photos, then you saw the love between Clare and Andy, or “Candy” as I learned at the wedding. The big day was just the right amounts of sentimental, humorous and good’ole fashioned fun!

This sunny September day started with a full Catholic mass. The church was filled with family, mostly Clare’s, and friends. This wedding featured the largest bridal party I have ever worked with– 18! Ten of those were siblings. (Clare is one of eight while Andy has one brother.) They are all fantastic people and were great to work with. My favorite part of the ceremony, you will see below, happened right after the first kiss: Andy turned to the crowd and did a little fist pump. It was the perfect way to celebrate!

Andy and Clare really kept me laughing, especially during the first dance when Clare attempted to lead Andy in a dip! This set the tone for the evening to follow. Dano’s on Seneca Lake provided the perfect blend of great food and great view, while The Critics kept the party rocking. The sun setting over the lake was the icing on the cake and the perfect backdrop for the evening.

I’ve talked enough… now I’ll let the pictures fill in the rest of the details. Congratulations “Candy” and thank you for letting me be a part of your day!

Krystal & Troy: Honeoye Falls, The Rabbit Room Wedding Photography

About the Mr. and Mrs.

When I first met Krystal, we talked about her love for running, cats, Elvis, and of course, Troy. We had many discussions about the details of the wedding: small guest list, mostly family, short ceremony, and oh yeah- she and Troy are both rather camera shy. I have to admit I was a little concerned about capturing the myriad of wedding day emotions with a camera shy couple, but I now know that my worries were unfounded.

When Krystal and Troy were together it was as if no one else was around. The love between the two and the family surrounding them was incredibly tangible. The situation was actually ideal: they would get so wrapped up in each other it seemed they would forget I was there. This allowed me to make some honest images of this truly wonderful couple.

Being with their guests was also a high priority for Krystal and Troy. We utilized the “First Look” strategy to take care of many of the formal photographs before the ceremony. We spent about an hour down by the waterfall in Honeoye Falls, which provided a gorgeous backdrop. The ceremony was highly personal, and presided over by the bride’s uncle. The evening festivities were quite lovely and the toast from Krystal’s father was one of the best I have ever heard. As dad welcomed Troy into the family, Krystal reached over to wipe the tear from her groom’s eye. Such a perfect day for a truly sweet couple.

Amber & Ben: A North Country Wedding

I’ve reached that point in life where it seems all of my friends are getting married and I love it! I met Amber my freshman year of high school, and we have been good friends ever since. When she and Ben got engaged, they asked that now all too familiar question, “But will you enjoy the wedding if you are also photographing it?” Up until now I fumbled through my response, because I have never been in the situation. I could “presume” but not answer difinitvely. Now that I have had the privilege of photographing my two good friends get married, I can happily say: Yes, I greatly enjoyed the wedding, more so than if I were only a guest. Here’s why.

I met Amber and several other good friends at the hotel for the preparation part of the day. We spent several hours together as they went through nails, makeup, sharing embarrassing stories, mom walking in on said stories… it was a blast. Documenting these moments comes so natural to me that I was able to be in the moment, as well as capture it. I remember hearing Amber’s sister, Desi, say, “You’ve got Lori over here looking like a monkey…” as Amber was getting into her dress. Everyone got a good laugh, and I got the picture. Win-win. If I were a guest at this wedding, I would have been in my hotel room or waiting for the ceremony to begin, missing all of the fun. So THANK YOU to Amber and Ben for inviting me to be with you on your wedding day! I hope you LOVE the memories I have captured for you as much as you enjoyed making them.

Custom Save-the-Date Cards from Engagement Portraits

Maybe I have said this before, but one of the best things about my job is spending time with people in love. Its a wonderful escape from the turbulence of our world to focus on the joys of love and laughter. I’m always happy to hear about engagements, but this one more than most because it was my cousin! Congratulations Anne and Marc, I am so so happy for you both and can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Recently, Anne brought Marc up to New York from their home in Florida to meet more of the family. While they were here, I stole them away to make some engagement portraits. We had a great time walking along the canal on a gorgeous summer day. When we finished up, Anne mentioned wanting some custom Save-the-Date cards to mail out. I asked about her theme, and some of the keywords that came up were: rustic, vintage, and nature. So I designed some cards for her with the concept of nature, and decided the idea of writing their names on a tree would be a perfect fit for them. Don’t worry– no trees were harmed in the making of this card! (The effect was added digitally.)

Photo Centerpieces and Escort Cards at a Wedding!

After photographing more and more weddings, its a nice treat to be off-duty and play “guest” every now and then. This was the case when good family friends of ours got married this past weekend. I grew up with Lindsay’s family, and had the pleasure of meeting Steve when I photographed their engagement session. Two of the nicest people I know got married, and it was beautiful!

The small print came in an envelope for guests to keep, while the larger print helped them find their seat!

One of my favorite things about weddings is how people personalize them. Lindsay did a great job with this, and I’m glad I got to play a little part in it! Each guest received a photo of the couple (from their engagement session with me) telling them which table they were seated at. There was a larger, matching photo on the table as part of the centerpiece display, and guests took home their smaller print as a keepsake.

The next cool way they personalized their reception, was by including the three minute Snap Cinema Fusion Video we had made for them! After the bridal party was introduced, the DJ directed everyone’s attention to the projector screen which played the video about how Steve and Lindsay met, dated, and got engaged. As it ended, Mr. & Mrs. were introduced to great applause! It was really a great moment to be there as a friend, and as the photographer! I’m sure my dad (who filmed and edited the video) felt similarly.

The screen made it easy for all 200 guests to see, and was easily and quickly torn down to make room for dancing!
